Matariki Te oro

Today Te Puna Wairua went to Te oro to do some Matariki toi But let me tell you how we got there!
first we went on a bus to go to the nearest bus stop to Te oro when we walked in I saw a tukutuku panel that said "Te oro"
We sat on some seats and we took our shoes of to enter the hōro, I saw a maro made from harakeke and it looked cool, I also saw a carved taiaha, made by Matua Kaihoro.
We got split up into 3 groups and every group was  different.
I was put in te mahi raranga group so we made some whetū and ika out of harakeke.

Samoan tapa

For Samoan language week, Te Puna Wairua did some Faiva (art).
We first drew some Samoan fugalaau and glued small pieces of pepa (paper)
then we glued the top with our glue laau (stick) to make it mafolafola (flat).
After that Te Puna Wairua drew some Samoan patterns and then coloured them to make them colorful.
When we finished we had to tell our story about our tapa patterns.

This is my story about my tapa pattern.
THE TALA OF THE BROTHERS OF ULU

There once was a time when there was five brothers but one brother was different from the other 4 because he had special powers, powers he can read the enemy's mind and powers that he is faster than the speed of light but the brothers thought it was just a game after there father got killed from a tao (spear) and they thought that the brothers of ulu killed their father to have the power of taking over the towers of ulu they soon got banned from the towers of ulu even though they did no crime.
one year later their evil cousin Danelieli was going to be crowned king of ulu and they needed to stop him before he destroys the island of Samoa, So they made a plan to attack the towers of ulu at dawn.
They sharpened their tao and went to journey the island of samoa, they swimmed the lakes they leaped the holes until they get to the towers of ulu.
when they arrived they snuck in untill the guards caught them but the brother that had powers did not get killed and saved his 4 brothers.
the 4 brothers were endlessly grateful.
they saw Danelieli and attacked, The battle lasted for days until they defeated Danelieli and crowned the brother that had the powers and neeled to their king.

Mau Raakau With Matua Punehu

On Raapare We had Mau raakau with Matua Punehu.
First let me tell you what Mau raakau is all about,
Mau raakau in pakeha terms a maori stick but in maori terms it is called a raakau or a Taiaha, a Taiaha is a kaitiaki of its weilder, that means a Taiaha is the guardien of its owner.
Mau raakau can be a game just like Ariki, Its a game when how ever many weilders of Taiaha, Tewhatewha, mere, Pouwhenua, Patu and other sorts of Maori weapons come together and have a whawhai (fight).

All we did with Matua Punehu was karakia witch was agreable because I dont think we can have a whawhai on our puka moroiti (Chromebook).

Hone Tahitahi Survived the great war

Kia ora e te whanau on anzac day I made a World war one costume and a gun that looks real.
I also learnt about my great grandfather (Hone Tahitahi) He Was in the 28th maori battalion and survied.
Hone got shot by a German soldier But he survied because the bullet from the german soldier hit Hone's Bible that layed on his chest and if that bible was not there the bullet would likely of killed him.

The Bible today lies in the te papa museum in wellington and the bullet from the german soldier still lies in the bible.

Riwai huamata

On Wednesday my mum and I were making riwai huamata.
First we peeled the riwai.

Then we put some whero aniana in to the riwai huamata, that did not go to plan because it was not cooked and I thought it ruined my riwai huamata.

After that we put some puna aniana in to the riwai huamata.

When the riwai finished cooking and the riwai was soft, we cut them up again in to bite size pieces and put it in a bowl with 3 tablespoons of mayonaise and the secret ingredient ''CHICKEN SALT''.

Now here is our final riwai huamata.

Next time I wont be adding any whero aniana.

Egg drop challenge

Today I made an egg float.
First I was going to make a parachute but it did not work because the egg was too heavy.
Next I had an idea of making a hot air balloon and putting the egg inside of the basket.
I first made the basket out of toothpicks but that did not go to plan because the glue from my hot glue gun did not stick, my dad had an idea of using a piece of a egg tray for the basket and I said "yes".
I put some duck tape for the walls so the egg does not fall out of the basket next I got some string and tied it to the 4 corners then on the other side I blew up a balloon so it will not hit the ground as hard, I had a few test tries off the balconey and the balloon poped.
I added some tissues to the basket to make it softer when it lands.
I threw the hot air balloon off the balconey with the real egg and the balloon poped again but the egg did not crack open and that was lucky so then I brought the egg back up stairs and the basket was not damaged.

My Bubble

Because we are in lockdown we have to stay home.

Everyday my parents and I  go for a walk, every morning and afternoon.   We see a lot of people down at the Dunkirk Reserve walking too.

Te Puna Wairua has a video call site to keep up with each other on work.

Most of the time I watch movies and eat popcorn, all I can hear are the birds because there is not that much cars and it is the same with the stars, the stars are bigger and brighter because there are not that much buildings in use.

One time my parents and I were soo bored, we played a game of golf and the winner gets a peanut slab! Unfortuiately I did not win the penut slab, my dad did.

  • Remember to put baking paper on the tray.
  • Use a table spoon to put the mixture onto the tray.
  • Put the cookies 5 cm apart.

    Harakeke

    Kia ora whanau.
On Thursday my parents and I went to go for a walk, so I took my pocket knife to get some harakeke (flax) because Whaea Lee said we are going to make some putiputi (flowers) on friday.  We cut the Harakeke at the school then came home.

On friday we went on the video call to make harakeke putiputi and whaea Lee showed us how to do it.  She said it is like a clock you turn to 3 o clock then 6 then 9 back to 12.
Repeat it then pull the leftover harakeke through the middle hole, start twisting then tie a knot and there is your flower.
I really struggled with this but this video helped me alot.

    Ki o rahi

Kia ora koutou  Ko Josh tenei and I am going to tell you about ki o rahi It is a really cool game.

A large team game played between 2 teams, kioma and taniwha on a large circular field. Played for 4 quarters or 2 halves of a set time, teams alternate roles of Kīoma and Taniwha at half or quarter time.
Kīoma score by touching Pou/s with the Kī (for potential points) then running the Kī through Te Roto and placing it down in Pawero to convert pou touches into points. Kīoma stop the other team, Taniwha.
Taniwha score by hitting the Tupu with the Kī. Kīoma will have Kaitiaki (guardians) around the Tupu to stop Taniwha from hitting the Tupu. Depending on which variation is being played, Taniwha must stop Kīoma from scoring by either touching, 2 handed touch, ripping the tag or tackling them in the appropriate area.
14 people is mininum for 1 game of Ki O Rahi.
Me and Rawiri always does a tirick when I jump of his back and throw it on the tupu and it normally does not work hahaha.
    Ka kite whanau.
